Clinics/Seminars
The Clinics and Seminars program aims to promote skater development across Alberta by providing financial support for major events. This initiative fosters growth for skaters, coaches, and officials throughout the province.
Clinics/Seminars
To host an event and contribute to the development of our skating community, please refer to the Clinic Application Guidelines for detailed instructions. Submission deadlines are June 1 and October 1 each year.
Clinic Application Guidelines
Applications for Clinic Grants are reviewed based on their individual merit, the AFSF mandate, and available financial resources. The criteria are:
- The applicant must be a current member in good standing with the AFSF.
- The applicant must be located in Alberta.
- Applications must be received by the deadlines: June 1 or October 1.
- Priority is given to clinics that are creative, innovative, and directly related to skater development.
- All events must align with the AFSF mandate.
- Participants who are AFSF members will receive a registration discount.
- Funding after the fact is discouraged.
- Due to limited funds and high application volume, not all eligible requests may be approved.
To ensure fair, equitable, and efficient application management, the following process must be followed:
- Applications can be submitted at any time, provided they are complete.
- Email all applications to the AFSF by the application deadline. The email address is on the application form. AFSF is not responsible for lost or redirected emails.
- Decisions will be made within 60 days following the deadline.
Before funding a program, each application must include:
- A covering letter with a clear description of the clinic, dates, main objectives, expected participants (skaters, coaches, parents, officials), benefits, and a preliminary agenda.
- A list of other funding sources applied to and any commitments.
- A preliminary budget.
- Information on other groups benefiting from the event and their support.
- Additional information may be requested to assess qualifications.
- A chart of the organizing committee and their duties.
A document checklist is included with application forms to ensure all requirements are met.
If you receive funding, you must submit a report within 30 days of the event's completion. The report should include:
- A description of the event’s outcome.
- An evaluation of the event's success relative to its objectives.
- A signed financial statement (post-budget) of all income and expenses, including receipts where appropriate.
- Previous financial accounting is required for future applications from the same group.
Funding will be issued upon receipt and review of the post-event report and commitment criteria. Any unused funds must be returned to the AFSF within 60 days of the event's completion.
By accepting funding, you agree that an AFSF-authorized auditor will have access to all related books and records to verify that funds were spent appropriately.
